We made it!
It seems we’ve made it all the way to 2021. Congratulations to you and to all of us! And with the advent of a new year comes the promise of transformation. We proclaim–with resolve–that something this year will change. And we do this while knowing that most New Year’s resolutions fail. Experts estimate that only 8% of us are successful in keeping true to ourselves, establishing and reaching new goals. There are, however, ways that you can increase the odds. Team Meyers is here to help!
First? When making goals, be specific. Instead of saying I want to lose weight, experts advise us to be very clear. Precise, even. For instance, instead of making your goal to “eat better,” make your goal to eat at least one serving of vegetables every day or no eating after 8:00 PM. If your goal is to exercise more, include the exact times and days of the week you plan on exercising. It is much easier to fail when you don’t have a plan.
Then, choose goals that are important to you. Most of us have similar resolutions. Lose weight, exercise more, and save money are among the top resolutions each year. Why not try and make yours something different, something important to you? If you’ve been wanting to spend more family time, perhaps make a goal of eating dinners as a family on specific days or instituting a Tech Free Tuesday at your home! You are more likely to keep the resolutions that are most important to you.
And lastly but certainly not least? Keep yourself accountable. Tell others about your resolutions. We are more likely to keep those resolutions when we have skin in the game, as they say. Just like working out with a buddy helps stay on exercise and diet plans, telling others what we are intending to accomplish in the new year brings about a sense of responsibility to our goals. It’s just plain easier to give up on ourselves. Having a few cheerleaders to help keep us honest can make a big difference.
These are just a few tips on ways to stay true to your goals and resolutions this year. If you spend some thinking time and commit to all that? Amazing. Come to see us in January and let us know what great things you’re up to in 2021. And again, from our family to yours—a sincere happy new year!
