Dr. Meyers uses a highly effective, non-invasive procedure, Vizilite, to aid her in identifying cancerous or precancerous cells. Early detection provides the best chance for full recovery.

Over forty thousand people are  diagnosed with oral cancer each year. Unfortunately nearly half those will die  in 5 years,  due to late detection. Dr. Meyers will do a screening for oral cancer at your routine dental hygiene examinations, including a risk assessment  She will also take a full medical history including a risk assessment. Smoking and alcohol and age may increase your chances of oral cancers. Those over 50 at more at risk.

Below are some symptoms of Oral Cancer from the American Dental Association:

• a sore or irritation that doesn’t go away
• red or white patches
• pain, tenderness or numbness in mouth or lips
• a lump, thickening, rough spot, crust or small eroded area
• difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving your tongue or jaw
• a change in the way your teeth fit together when you close your mouth
